If things go well, don't be surprised to see US President Barack Obama donning the Puneri pagdi, a symbol of pride and honour for Maharastrians. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal is keen to present the Puneri pagdi to President Obama, who is scheduled to arrive in Mumbai on Saturday.
Obama will speak at the Taj Hotel, Mumbai, one of the sites of the November 26, 2008 terrorist attack.
"We are following the protocol and formalities to meet Obama. If all goes well I hope I can meet Obama in an official capacity as the first Punekar," he said. "My dream is to present Obama the famous Puneri Pagdi as a honour," Rajpal said.
Mayor Rajpal is waiting for the green signal from the team in charge of providing security to Obama in Mumbai.

Mayor Rajpal had gifted a Puneri pagdi to the Mayor of Wolfsburg during his recent visit to Germany.
"I am giving the order to famous pagdi maker Girish Murudkar," Rajpal said.u00a0
Murudkar said he had made the pagdi for Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former president of Indiau00a0 and many others.u00a0 "We make pagdid ranging from Rs 550 to Rs 5 lakh each," Murudkar said. "Using red satin around the headgear looks attractive. It is can also be decorated with diamonds."
