The Mercedes that rammed into five men near Mhada Telephone Exchange in Versova in the wee hours yesterday was traced using a number plate that fell off the vehicle, after the driver fled the scene.
Locals rushed the victims Abhilash Vyas (27), Vishal Sharma (22), Mahesh Vange (28), Shashant Singh (25) and Janardhan Singh (28) to Dhirubai Ambani Hospital. Three have been discharged while two are undergoing treatment.
After locals found the vehicle’s number plate at the spot, police used it to trace the car to one Falgun Shroff through the RTO.
Later yesterday, the driver himself drove the vehicle to the police station claiming to have been involved in a mishap. No arrest has been made in this regard, but a case of hit-and-run, rash driving and causing grievous hurt has been registered. The police will reach a conclusion after questioning the car owner.u00a0
