A militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kupwara district of North Kashmir this morning.
Acting on a tip off, troops launched search operations in Handwara, 90 kms from here, in the wee hours, a defence spokesman said.
The militant hiding there opened fire on troops and in the retaliatory action, he was killed. The spokesman said the slain militant was of foreign origin.
