Despite better results, cut-off percentage dips for various courses in the college

Nothing can bring more cheer to a DU aspirant than hoping for a dip in cut-off percentage.
Seems like there wishes have been granted, as the Capital's most sought after college, St. Stephen's is going for a lower percentage despite better results this year.

The college has come out with its list, the first for any Delhi University college this academic season.u00a0
In BA Economics (Hons), one of the most popular courses of the university, theu00a0 cut-off has come down by 0.5 per cent for Science students, whereas for Commerce and Humanities students, the cut-off marks remained the same.

The cut-off percentage for Science, Commerce and Humanities are 95.25 per cent, 97 per cent, 95 per cent respectively.u00a0 In English (Hons), another popular course of DU, the cut-off percentage has gone up to 94.50 for Science students, 1.5 per cent lesser than last year. Cut-off marks for Commerce and Humanities students again remained the same - 97 per cent, 92.50 per cent respectively.

This was regardless of the fact that the college received a record number of applications from candidates with very high marks, especially for Economics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics (Hons). Overall about 29,000 forms were sold and about 22,000 received. The official spokesperson of the college said: "The higher cut-offs seems to have been put on hold and are reversed now, at least partly by the new policy enunciated by the principal, that is not more than 15 per cent difference between the cut-off for general category and reserved categories (Christians and SC/ST) will be permitted."

"Another factor that has contributed to the lowering of cut-offs is the fact that a larger number of candidates are being called for the interviews, keeping in mind the actual number appearing for interviews in the past few years," added the spokesperson.

In History (Hons) cut-off has come down by two per cent for Commerce students and by three per cent for Humanities students, whereas in Mathematics (Hons), the cut-off has again come down by one per cent, and has increased by three per cent for Humanities students.

The list of candidates to be called for interviews (with date and time) will be put up on the college notice board by 5 pm and on the college website thereafter. Interviews will begin at 8 am on June 16. The course-wise schedule of interviews between June 16 and June 29 is also given on the college website.

This does not apply to candidates from the physically challenged category, all of whom will be called for the interview if they meet the minimum eligibility requirements of the University, and provided they have submitted valid disability certificates.
