The city witnessed pre-monsoon showers in the wee hours yesterday at several places, including Shivaji Nagar, Camp, Wanowrie, Katraj and Hadapsar, which according to the weather bureau was because of incursion of westerly winds in the atmosphere.u00a0

Several parts of the city have so far received four spells of drizzle and thundershowers in the past 25 days, with
inconstant variation in the temperature.

“The thundershowers resulted mainly from a trough of wind discontinuity, which is running in the north-south direction across the country. Under its influence, the winds from the oceanic area are bringing in greater moisture, which in turn is causing the formation of local convective clouds resulting in rain,” said L Gavkar, in charge, weather central, IMD.

The IMD has predicted that a significant respite from the heat and humidity, as the maximum temperature would range between 37 and 38 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature between 22 and 23 degrees Celsius for the next 48 hours.

Humidity levels will remain between 65 and 75 per cent (maximum) and 25 and 35 per cent (minimum) for at least two days.
