A day after Narendra Modi filed his nomination papers from Vadodara in which he declared that Jashodaben was indeed his wife, the Nationalist Congress Party spokesperson Nawab Malik slammed the BJP prime ministerial candidate. He added that he would also be approaching the Election Commission to cancel Modi's nomination from Vadodara on charges of forgery.

"In the past, Modi has always said that he was an unmarried. But while filing his nomination from Vadodara, he declared Jashodaben as his wife. He has cheated the entire nation," said an irate Malik during a press conference at Aapte Road.

He also took the opportunity to slam the Mahayuti alliance, comprising of BJP, the Shiv Sena and Republican Party of India (A). He said that even though the BJP wanted Raj Thackeray's MNS to join the alliance, their fear of alienating their voters in the north, especially in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, was the reason that the MNS was not inducted into the alliance.

He also said that the MNS was a hidden ally of the BJP. "Raj Thackeray has already mentioned that his elected MPs would support Modi to become the next prime minister. But, owing to Raj's strong anti-north Indian stance, the BJP has kept its distance publicly."
