When the 83rd All India Marathi Literary Meet (AIMLM) opens, it will see security arrangements never before seen in its history. But then, the February 13 German Bakery blast has changed many things in this relaxed and peaceful city.

The security measures have become all the more essential considering the large number of people expected to attend the event in the cultural capital of the state, not to forget the presence of VVIPs like actor Amitabh Bachchan, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, the Chief Minister and others.

Nearly 15,000 people are likely to attend the meet to be held later this month.

As the security details were worked out by city police and AIMLM officials yesterday evening, it was decided that CCTV cameras, anti-sabotage equipment and elaborate bandobast with the help of State Reserve Police Force groups and QRP teams would be some of the key features of the arrangement.

DCP (Zone I) Dnyaneshwar Phadtare finalised the security measures with AIMLM president of the welcoming committee Dr Satish Desai.

Desai told MiD DAY the police will be undertaking a thorough screening of the SP college, the ground of which is the venue of the meet.

"Our bomb disposal squad will be camping in the campus throughout the meet," said Phadtare.

Desai said many Marathi film stars and celebrities are also making their presence at meet. Police Inspector M D Rathod of the Vishrambaug police station is in charge of the security planning. He said, "There will be CCTV cameras at the four entrance and exit gates. Doorframe metal detectors will be used in big numbers."
