Nigerian held for e-mail lottery scam

The Delhi Police has busted a gang involved in an e-mail lottery scam after arresting a Nigerian national and his Indian woman accomplice.

The Nigerian national Obaseki Prince and the woman from Manipur Boni Sushila James were arrested from outside IGI airport on February 24 following a probe into a complaint filed by one Rakesh. Rakesh claimed he was cheated of Rs 90,000 after the accused told him that he had won a 7.5 lakh pound lottery.

Prince allegedly specialised in sending fake spoofed emails through "nationwidebank@englandmail.com". "The location of the sender is difficult to find in such spoofed e-mails. The lottery promised a windfall to the victim. Once hooked, the victim was asked to send information to an e-mail account generated by Prince," said Ashok Chand, DCP (crime).
