Nimbalkar's wife dealt with the crores

Dr Anjali Nimbalkar carried out transactions worth several crores on behalf of her husband, tainted IPS officer Hemanth Nimbalkar, Lokayukta investigations revealed.

Nimbalkar, superintendent of police for the newly-formed Anti Terrorist Squad and a relative of Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chauhan, was found to have assets disproportionate to his known source of income.

Investigations found that Dr Anjali has many bank accounts with transactions going into several crores. She had given Rs 10 lakh to one Milan Seller to buy 6 acres and 6 guntas on the Dharwad-Belgaum highway and Rs 5 lakh to invest in Jadhav Nagar in Belgaum. Though unemployed, Milan has a PAN card in his name to facilitate bank transactions.

Apart from this, two demand drafts of Rs 20 lakh were credited into Dr Anjali's account by Gems Carrier.

Meanwhile, investigations into Nimbalkar's assets continued across Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolhapur and Belgaum.

Gymkhana scam

Lokayukta officials are also probing the Rs 4.3-crore gymkhana that Nimbalkar had built for the police while he was the Bellary SP. Though the land belonged to the police department, he did not take any permission to build the structure.

Investigations reveal that the majority of the members were private parties with whose contributions the gymkhana was built. But collecting donations amounts to professional misconduct since Nimbalkar is a government servant.

Also, Nimbalkar had mentioned the chief minister, home minister, DG& IGP and DC of Bellary as the gymkhana's chief patrons without taking their permission to include them in the membership list.

Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde said it was a journalist who gave them a tip-off about Nimbalkar's assets.
