Maharashtra government has no record available on the number of people acquitted in cases of outraging the modesty of women, an RTI query has revealed.

The application, seeking to know the total number of people charged under Section 354 of IPC (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) but were later acquitted of the charge, was filed by city-based activist Mansoor Darvesh with Law and Judiciary department.

The department sent Darvesh's query to Home Ministry which forwarded it to the office of the Director General of Police, which said, "the information is not available with this office". The applicant was also provided a list of all police stations in Mumbai and was asked to approach them for case details.
