The Bangalore Women's Rugby team, which has brought the country laurels despite its humble beginning, is suffering a slow death and is being forced to bid the sport adieu because of lack of funds. The same corporates, which repeatedly shunned the idea of sponsoring the women's rugby team, are spending lakhs on the Bangalore women's cricket team.

Problems galore
"For the last four years, we have been hopping from one training ground to another and it becomes very difficult for the team to settle down. The previous police commissioner was kind enough to let us use the Adugodi police grounds for free, but now that option is no more and we train at the Brindavan Tech Park during the weekends," said V Sushmita, VP of the Karnataka Rugby Football Association (Women's section).
Apart from the lack of proper training grounds, the lack of funds has also left the players in limbo. "We have been running around and it is frustrating to see that no corporate is interested in sponsoring our team. The team mainly consists of college students and we cannot expect them to pay for camps and tournaments outside the city. If we could get backing from some private firm, it would help us greatly," Sushmita added. Many corporates, whom the team has approached, turned their backs citing lack of interest in the sport by the common man.u00a0receives.
"The women's cricket team in the state however, although not being recognised by the Sports Ministry, receives huge sponsorship amounts and backing," said Gerald Prabhu, co-founder of the KRFU and VP of the South India Rugby Football.
