MNS moots no-confidence motion against Sitaram Kunte; but until the issue is tabled in BMC, party will launch a social media campaign for Mumbaikars to voice their views on him

MNS group leader in the BMC, Sandeep Deshpande, wrote to Mayor Sunil Prabhu yesterday to expresses his lack of confidence in Kunte. The issue will be tabled before the civic general body meeting next month. But until then, the MNS has decided to kick off a digital campaign on Facebook and Twitter.
“The Facebook page will start on Monday and we will then go for a Twitter campaign. We are also considering starting an SMS campaign,” said Deshpande.u00a0“The involvement of the public will help us to know their views, since the civic amenities are for them and they should express whether they are happy with them or not.”u00a0
Pointing to the gaps in governance, the party said roads were in a bad shape despite crores having been spent on them, building collapse incidents had shot up alarmingly because of dithering over repairs, filth was heaping up on the streets, school supplies were inadequate and supplied belatedly, hospital facilities etc were not up to mark and so on.
Loksatta, a non-governmental organisation, opined that though there were problems, the blame could not be pinned on an individual.u00a0“The fundamental problem is not any individual, but the mechanical institution. We cannot blame Kunte completely. Every politician realises this, but it’s a gimmick. If they really want to change, they should reform the system, instead of faulting a single person,” said Surendra Shrivastav of Loksatta, NGO.u00a0
He added that the state government was as responsible as other agencies for the lapses. “The BMC is controlled by the state government,” he said. Commissioner Sitaram Kunte was not available for comment.
