Jaipur: One more 'water' train with 50 wagons of 27 lakh litre capacity left today for Miraj in Maharashtra to cater to the needs of the parched Marathwada region which is battling its worst-ever drought. The train, which started from Kota railway station of Rajasthan, will cover a distance of 1370 kms to reach Miraj, West Central Railway sources said.

First such train was sent to Maharashtra from Kota on April 8. Earlier, two special trains have ferried water to the Marathwada region. The Latur district administration has acquired a huge well located near the railway station to store the water which is then supplied to the town.

As per instructions from the Ministry of Railways, Kota workshop received two goods trains consisting of 50 tank wagons each for deployment in drought-affected areas of Latur during the summer season and the trips of the trains will be arranged as per the requirement. The carrying capacity of these wagons is 54,000 litres of water per wagon.
