Our new heroes

Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza clogged timelines for a good reason after winning the French Open mixed doubles title. Rahul Bose added this tweet to the scores of congratulatory messages that flooded in: ‘Fantastic stuff Bhupathi and Mirza! Mahesh, what a great 21st birthday present! If anyone says 38, ask them to watch you play.’ There was this rather cynical comment from Praveen K: ‘Congratulations to Mahesh Bhupathi for winning in spite of Sania Mirza.’ And from the lady herself, a message from Sania Mirza-Malik: ‘Overwhelmed by your tweets and messages. All the love right back at you guys, thank you. Roland Garros Champions, it’s finally sunk in.’

Power struggles
Sanjay Joshi submitted his resignation to BJP chief Nitin Gadkari and clogged timelines in the process. Faking News tweeted: ‘Breaking: Joshi one step close to being secular.’ A certain Vijay added: ‘Diggy sir, will you welcome Joshi into the Congress with open arms?’ There was this comment from journalist Barkha Dutt: ‘So Joshi returns to the RSS but not without a last hurrah. More baiting posters surface in Gujarat. Somehow this story isn’t over yet.’ And from Piyush Kulshreshtha: ‘I can bet a thousand rupees only 2-3% BJP supporters knew Sanjay Joshi’s name before media/Congress picked it up to fight Modi and the BJP.’

Our neighbours
How do you know when something is made in China? That bizarre question yielded these among other responses: ‘When Sony is spelled Sqmy’, ‘when the label says Made in the U.S’, ‘when a panda hands it to you and winks’, ‘when your Louis Vuitton bag reads Louis Wonton’, ‘when the Nike logo faces the opposite way’ and ‘when your iPhone can be charged with a Nokia charger.’

The last word
From cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle: ‘It’s all very well to say we don’t have a sports culture, but the people who can afford to create it must do their bit.’
