Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) commissioner Bharat Lal Meena believes that loud and gaudy posters and graffiti on city walls amount to defacement of public and private property which is expensive and labour-intensive to remove.

So, while replacing them with more aesthetic works of art, it even plans to fine film producers and directors as well as private companies that use public property for advertisement. It is not clear whether political parties will also be penalised.

Giving in

But BBMP's plans of a Beautiful Bangalore don't seem that easy to put in place with people yielding to the call of nature on a piece of history.

One man caught in the act near the Mysore Bank head office at peak hour was apologetic but made no promises. "Sir, where can I go," he asked. "It is instinct for me. If we go to Sulabh Shouchalaya, we have to pay. That's why I come here. I know these walls tell stories of great people but sometimes, we may fail. Sorry!"
