Thief known for stealing cars held for third time in 10 years
Khaleel, a resident of Hosaguddadahalli, who was involved in stealing 60 two-wheelers and five four-wheelers portraying himself as a Regional Transport Officer was caught for the third time.
Earlier, he had been jailed twice in connection with other robbery cases.
Long record
In 1999, Khaleel was caught by the police, for his involvement in various house thefts. He pretended that he was an officer of the state government authorised to inspect basic infrastructure of houses.

While checking water tanks and other safety measures, he studied the layout of the house. He would sneak into the house later and clean it of valuables when the owners were away.

When he was released after a year-long punishment, he moved base to KR Market and started telling people that he was a Regional Transport Officer.
With the help of a stolen jeep that has a government logo, he managed to win public trust.

He caught traffic rule violators and with the help of his assistants, seized vehicles and after changing their registration numbers and certificates, sold them for cheaper prices.
For three years, he fooled the public, but was caught after the theft of 40 vehicles. The police seized his jeep and sent him to jail.
After being released from the jail, he called his friend Amzad asking him to steal bikes and offered him a commission. Amzad agreed to the offer and Khaleel kept selling vehicles with forged documents.

He used duplicate rubber stamps to forge the documents. After some thefts Amzad left Khaleel and Tanveer Pasha joined him who has three vehicle lifting cases against him.
The police finally caught them both red handed when they were trying to sell the bikes.
Habitual offender
Sub Inspector D Ravi of TR Nagar police station said, "He is a habitual offender who has been at it for the last 10 years. Market and Rajarajeshwarinagar police stations have cases against them.
