Supporters of Congress candidate Mahabal Mishra allegedly attacked those of his BJP rival Jagdish Mukhi with a knife at a debate organised by a TV channel.
A few days back residents angry over the erratic water supply in the area had gheraoed Mishra in Uttam Nagar.
Theu00a0 BJP activist was admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Deepak Jindal, one of the cousins of the victim alleged, "My uncle has received 12 stitches in his hand. He has also been hit in his head. The knife that they used was from the kitchen of the hotel. Mishra had also threatened my uncle during the programme."
Meanwhile, the police said that they were still confirming if a knife was used in the incident. "We have registered a case on Sunil Jindal's complaint. The use of knife will only be confirmed after medical reports come out," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi district) Shankar Das.
According to Mishra's supporters, more than 50 per cent of the constituency was unauthorized because of which there are problems relating to water and electricity. "All the candidates are promising water to the people in this constituency. This is a grave problem and has to be solved very soon," said participant at the programme.
