The Indian Meteorological Department has done it yet again. It was wrong in its predictions about the amount of rainfall the city received between June 1 and June 5 in the form of pre-monsoon showers.

The Met has been wrong in its predictions about the pre-monsoon showers in the city. However, it says that the monsoons should hit the city by June 10. Pic/Sameer Markande

According to the forecast by IMD, the period between June 1 and June 5 should have witnessed rainfall of approximately 34.6 mm at Santacruz and 31.1 mm at Colaba. However, the figures differ drastically from the actual amount of rainfall received. Santacruz received only 9.6 mm of rainfall and Colaba 28 mm. The IMD has also said that the monsoons will arrive by June 10 this year.

Ajay Kumar, director of Regional Weather Forecasting Cell at IMD said, “The monsoons ideally arrive by June 5. However this time there is a delay, which is quite normal. The next two days (June 7 and June 8) will tell us about the arrival.” The next two days are expected to be dry, said officials at IMD. The delay in the monsoons has led to water cuts in various parts of the city.u00a0
