After the High Court pulled up the city police for their poor investigative skills, the police yesterday dished out statistics to state their skills are better than that of the Mumbai cops

The Pune police have claimed they are better than their counterparts in Mumbai.

After a rap by the High Court,u00a0 the Pune police trotted out statistics to buttress their claim that their performance is better than that of the Mumbai police.

Yesterday, they submitted details of unsolved crimes in the city to the High Court through Public Prosecutor Mankunwar Deshmukh.

The statistics highlighted that despite less manpower and more policing area per cop, the Pune police have better detection rate.

According to the report, Pune police have 8,000 cops while Mumbai has 46,000 cops besides many companies of State Reserve Police Force, Rapid Action Force and other forces. The policing area per cop in Mumbai is 437 sq.km, while in Pune it is 700 sq. km.

Ashwini Rane, wife of city builder Nikhil Rane who was shot in November, had filed a petition in court as the murder case remains unsolved.

On July 12, while hearing the plea, the court pulled up the police saying their investigative skills have blunted.

The court directed the police to file an affidavit stating in how many murder, dacoity and rape cases, chargesheets had not yet been filed.
