45-year-old head constable attached to Dadar RPF was on his way home in a fast local when he fell down near Sion station due to an unknown cause
A 45-year-old head constable attached to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) fell off a moving train near Sion station and slipped into a coma yesterday. Vijaykant Jha was returning home after his night shift at Dadar station on a fast local when the incident occurred. Passers-by rushed him to Sion hospital. He has sustained multiple head injuries and a fractured chest bone.

The accident took place around 9 am near pole number 12/14 near Sion station. A resident of Shahad, Jha has been working with the Dadar RPF for the last two years.u00a0“His condition is serious. He is on ventilator in the ICU, and is still in coma,” said an RPF official. The Government Railway Police (GRP) is trying to ascertain the cause of the fall: whether it was overcrowding, slipping, stone pelting, or hitting a pole. According to a railway police officer, the reason that he hit a pole is more plausible. He couldn’t have slipped due to overcrowded trains because during morning hours, there is not much rush in trains northward.
Alok Vohra, senior security commissioner, (RPF), said, “He was off duty when he fell from the train; he was on his way home from work. We are yet to establish how exactly he fell down but we believe that he was standing at the door until something happened that forced him off the train.” The police are trying to get in touch with passengers who were present in the coach with him, but no one has yet been traced. “Our staff has been attending to him round the clock. We can only know why he fell down when he regains consciousness,” added Vohra. Railway activist Samir Jhaveri said, “I feel he should be transferred to Byculla railway hospital which is one of the best railway hospitals.” u00a0
