Want CAG to go into every single detail of sporting event
RTI activists are demanding an in-depth investigation into the expenditure made by the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) committee under various heads in the city.
"CYG was just a trailer. CWG was the main picture," said Vivek Velankar, president of Sajag Nagrik Manch. "A Krida Sahitya Sammelan (Games Groups Convention) was held on January 2008 at Balgandharva Rangmandir. The expenses for the convention were Rs 75 lakh. We would like a probe about an event directly related to CYG. We need to point out such unseen expenses to Indian Audit and Accounts Department."
He was speaking in the backdrop of the two-member team of Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IAAD) working with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), which is in the city to audit the CYG. CYG was organised by city MP Suresh Kalmadi in his capacity as chairman of CYG organising committee.
Vijay Kumbhar, another RTI activist, said the actual share of Rs 2,500 crore spent on CYG by the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporations, state government and Sports and Youth Commissionerate is not yet known.
"We learnt that CYG Committee spent Rs 108 crore just for organising the mega event in October 2008. I want the details of these expenses."
Meanwhile, details of expenses for CYG by PCMC were given by Commissioner Ashish Sharma to Kamal Valli, Deputy General (Audit) CAG. A process of detailed auditing has started from Tuesday in which department heads from building and construction department, accounts department and Sky Sign department have submitted their report.
The CAG team will audit the PMC from Thursday.
