Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has singled out Narendra Modi for special praise claiming he has taken Gujarat on the path of development during his tenure as Chief Minister of the state.
"Gujarat has developed rapidly under Modi's tenure as Chief Minister. I have come here to know what steps he has taken to put Gujarat on the path of development," Thackeray, who is on a nine-day visit to the state, told reporters here last night.
He said he had decided to visit Gujarat after Tata group chairman Ratan Tata praised Modi for bringing the Nano car project to Sanand in the state from West Bengal's Singur.
"Modi has tremendous political will power and people of the state should make sure that the benefits of development being done by him is not grabbed by others," said Thackeray, who champions the cause of the 'Marathi manoos' and is known for his anti-North Indian rhetorics.
"I'm not opposed to any language but I strongly believe that people should adapt the tradition in which they live," he said and maintained Gujarati people should be given first preference in jobs in local projects.
