Return of gang war?

After surviving two earlier attacks on his life, dreaded gangster shot dead in cold blood at city restobar

The city witnessed firing at a family restobar near Parvati on Monday evening. Police believe that it was gang rivalry that led to the shoot out in which a gangster Kishore Marne was shot dead.

Marne, who has a history of criminal charges, succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to Sanjeevani hospital. He had survived two previous attempts on his life by rival gangs.

According to eyewitnesses present at the spot, Marne walked in with Vijay Marne and Bharat Gujar for a cup of tea after watching a movie around 6.05 pm.

The waiter M M Jamadar, who served them tea in the garden area, said, "I took their order and served tea and then went inside. Soon after I heard a scuffle and then gun shots."

The owner Mahendra Rajbhoj, said, "The three of them were at our restaurant for 15 minutes. While they were leaving, there was a scuffle and suddenly out of nowhere three people came in an Indica and a fight broke out. They smashed glasses and the door. I heard three gun shots."

Turf war
The broad daylight shootout points to the resurgence of gang war over the spiraling real estate business in Pune, fear police officials.

"It's a battle between two gangs. It's a turf war," said Dr Satya Pal Singh, Commissioner of Police.

Additional CP of Pune South Region Prabhat Kumar said, "There was a scuffle between the two groups before the firing."

Kumar added, "There were two attempts to kill Kishore in the past, police had foiled both the attempts. We suspect the role of a rival gang."

During the shootout, two bullets hit Kishore in the spinal chord, and he was declared dead on arrival. His body was sent to Sassoon Hospital for postmortem.

His accomplice Vijay and Bharat were injured in the scuffle. Both were taken to a private hospital.

Police have seized the Indica in which the three assassins had come to the spot.

Police suspect that rival gang members Tushar Thopte alias Bablu, Hemant Dabhekar and Munna Shaikh who had attempted to kill Kishore in 2008 were behind the shootout yesterday.
