The national capital exports most of the belly dancing apparel to Brazil, says leading online trading site

Each year thousands visit the annual Rio carnival in Brazil and millions watch it on their television sets. Next time you spot a dancer grooving her belly to the tunes of country, music at the gala festival,u00a0 chances are she might be wearing a dress exported from our very own Dilli.

Apart from the dancing apparel, the national capital also exports salwar suit, minerals and gemstones to the world, according to data from a leading online trading website.








Delhiites led the country in shopping and selling on eBay this year. "Last year, Mumbai had topped the list of e-commerce hubs in the country followed by Delhi. Interestingly, Delhi turned out to be the most active e-commerce hub in the country, going ahead of Mumbai. Besides, smaller cities like Jaipur, Pune and Chandigarh featured in top 10," eBay country manager Ambareesh Murty said.

He attributed the growth of online trading in the city to increasing entrepreneurial activities as well as interest in varied categories, including from books to car accessories amongst traders and shoppers.

Besides, the report, which highlighted trends in online trading between the period January 2008 till June 2009, observed that the quantum of activity has also increased in smaller cities and rural areas as well.

We love music

Another interesting fact that the data revealed is that Delhi sells the most musical instrumentu00a0- percussion, brass, synthesizers and guitars in the country. Are international bands that chose to give the Capital a slip listening?

Apart from gadgets, which accounted for 47 per cent of all the online trading, Dilliwalahs love to splurge on sunglasses. They also bought the most high-end digital cameras in the country. The capital also acts the timekeeper of the nation, as it sells most of the chronograph watches in the country.

Break it down

South Delhi women bought the most lingerie while Central Delhi women bought the most sarees.

North Delhi men bought the most formal shirts, cuff links and tie pins.

South Delhi men preferred sports watches, wallets and sunglasses.

South Delhi bought the most action movies, West Delhi preferred educational movies. East Delhi bought fitness DVDs, Central Delhi loved Telugu movies and North Delhi bought family dramas.

Purchased: Loose diamonds, value handsets, diamond rings, USB drives and Indian stamps are the top 5 purchases by eBayers in Delhi.

Sold: USB drives, Indian stamps, laptop accessories, diamond rings and action PC games.

Exports: Books, loose gemstones, belly dancing apparel, decoration crystals, minerals and salwar suits.
