Ruling BJP takes on JD(S) for allotting govt land illegally

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa's camp alleged that JD(S) leader H D Revanna allotted government land to private parties in Hassan district while he was minister in 2007.

They claim he indulged in favoritism, corruption and misuse of powers by allotting government "gomala" (grassland), graveyard and forest reserve lands totalling 656.27 acre to 290 persons in the district in 2007.

The CM's Political Secretary B J Puttaswamy, who released a copy of an enquiry report on the complaint given by N Krishnaswamy to Upalokayukta regarding irregularities, said a panel headed by Revanna had decided to allot land in favour of people who had not even filed applications in prescribed form or as per rule.

As per the directions of the Upalokayukta, an inspection team headed by G N Nayak, Special Officer, Karnataka Power Corporation Limitedu00a0(Bangalore), was constituted last year and it has submitted its report.

As per law, Revanna has no right to head the unauthorised cultivated land panel since he was a minister, he said.

Stating that he would write to the CM on the issue to take stern action, Puttaswamy said lands should be allotted again to eligible families.

He also asked the Forest Department to take steps to recover the land allotted to families by the panel headed by Revanna.
