Suspected vehicle thief says he wanted to meet ailing father

Love for family seems to be a common reason for jailbreak. After Robert Salvi tried to run away from Yerawada jail last week on the pretext of meeting his son, another prisoner also tried his luck on Tuesday. This time, the reason was to meet his ailing father.

An accused in a recent vehicle theft case, Vishal Bhalerao escaped from police custody after he was produced in Pimpri court on Tuesday. He was nabbed by the police from the Indrayani Nagar, Bhosari after three hours of intensive search operation that extended till late night on Tuesday.

Bhalerao's custody was transferred to the Sangvi police on Tuesday and he was produced in the Pimpri court on Tuesday afternoon. The court remanded him to magisterial custody (MCR).

He was to be shifted to Yerawada jail as per his MCR. The police escorted Bhalerao and was seated in the police van. While he was sitting in the van, the back door was slightly open. Bhalerao seized the opportunity, jumped out of the vehicle and ran away.u00a0

Police Inspector Shantaram Tayde from Sangvi police station said, "Three teams were formed to trace and nab Bhalerao. He said he ran away because he wanted to meet his ailing father."

Bhalerao's is accused in several vehicle thefts.
