Due to the ongoing economic slowdown and uncertainty of job in foreign land, most of the prospective brides and grooms from IT industry aren't getting lured by dollars anymore. Besides, they now prefer to stay back in India and are diffident to settle abroad.

Vandana Kulkarni, a marriage counsellor, said that the trend is changing now as IT companies in India too after good pay packages and it's not at all difficult to maintain a lifestyle that's on par with what it is in abroad. She added, "Most of the guys and girls in the IT sector travel abroad for some or the other project/training and have seen the lifestyle there. However, get used to such a lifestyle and culture takes a while."

Explaining the reason why people from IT sector are searching for soul mates back home, Kulkarni said, "IT couple also don't prefer to settle abroad as they are alien to the society and cultural there. Hence, they prefer to acquire that lifestyle in their own country."

Moreover, she said, "Prospective brides and grooms are aware of the uncertain nature of job in foreign land as most of the prominent IT hubs are going through economic turmoil. Besides, the news of lay offs, pay cuts and difficulties involved in finding a new job are discouraging enough for couples."

Hence, now they prefer to settle in cities that have several IT companies like in Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad where there are multiple job options and they have the privilege of working in the same city which is quite unlikely in foreign countries. Further Kulkarni added that girls in the IT industry feel that the slowdown is only a passing phase and are confident that if they work together with their partners, they will stay afloat.
