It was near this chowk that MiD DAY crime investigations editor J Dey was gunned down exactly a year ago. In a gesture that will hopefully expunge some of the trauma of the memory and supplant it with respect for the triumphant life that preceded it, Niranjan Hiranandani, MD of Hiranandani Group, has announced that he will name the square outside DMart after Dey.

“The square opposite DMart will be named after J Dey in his honour,” announced Hiranandani during a candlelight vigil at the spot held to commemorate Dey’s first death anniversary yesterday. The event was organised by the NGO The Horizon, in collaboration with some eminent Powai residents. u00a0
