Delicatessens are springing up all over the city to cater to expats craving a taste of home and those who want to experiment with some fine dining in their kitchens

Sometimes you just fancy a special something: queen's olives, gruyere cheese, salami, proscuitto, smoked salmon, foccacia, chocolate mousse, baklava. It's enough to make the mouth water and once you start salivating, it's difficult to stop.

It can be frustrating trying to satisfy your craving, when you really need to be in a patisserie Paris or a caf ufffd in Beirut, but now you can get your fix of exotic meats and cheese right here in a deli in the city.

The Guide checked out three places for you to stock up.

Fava Deli
Fava, the Mediterranean eatery now has a new deli counter at the restaurant itself. You can choose from crusty sea salt, virgin olive oils, pastas, risotto rice, porcini mushrooms, rare hams and salamis, and European wines as well as freshly made breads, dips, cakes and chocolates.

Cheese lovers will be drooling over the selection, which includes goat's cheese, Lebanese Halloumi and Spanish Mahone. The mezze dips are great if you are entertaining guests, Try their rich, lemony Baba Ghanoush (a dip made out of smoked aubergine, olive oil and lime) or the super smooth hummus with some soft, succulent pitta bread and kalamata olives.

Their luxury hampers make excellent gifts and they also take custom orders for cakes and chocolates. All you need to do is give a day's notice if you need something out of the ordinary.

Sunny's Deli
This deli counter at Sunny's offers an array ofu00a0 meat and cheese Northern Europe has to offer. Choose from 15 varieties of cheese, including melt-in-the-mouth brie, fierce Gorgonzola, and creamy, nutty Emmenthal.

The carnivorous will not be disappointed; Sunny's stock Black Forest and Prosciutto Hams, and Bratwurst, Chorizo, Pepperoni and Salami sausages. Americans missing home can even order a Thanksgiving Turkey, either cooked or uncooked, for the big day.

They also sell quiches, tarts, cakes and desserts.

Sorbet
This gourmet one-stop-shop stocks both exotic imports and high-quality Indian snacks. Choose from a wide range of meats and cold cuts as well as olive oils, pastas, chutneys, chocolates, brownies, and Farsan products like khandvi and samosas.
