Car thieves give high-end stolen vehicles a makeover and then sell them for just Rs 3 lakh in Uttar Pradesh
A group of car thieves virtually took stolen high-end vehicles on a cross-country trip, refurbished them and then sold them at the price of a small car.
According to the Uttar Pradesh (UP) police, the main accused, Rakesh Kumar Singh, stole the vehicles from Bangalore and transported them to Balia in UP.
He then had the vehicles, which cost up to Rs 25 lakh, worked upon, and sold them to VIPs for as little as Rs 3 lakh, the police added.
Singh's gang used false number plates to transport the vehicles, which included SUVs like Pajeros, Boleros, and Scorpios among others.
Singh is the block president of Bairia in Balia district. He also happens to be the son of former Samajwadi Party MLA Vikram Singh.
'Singh is kingpin'
V K Shekar, superintendent of Police in Balia, said, "Singh is the kingpin of this operation. We found three cars in his possession. The investigation is still on."
He added, " Singh is absconding, but we hope to nab him soon."
