Stuck on E-way for over 2 hours, commuters tweet about ordeal

Nilam Rajore (20) had a harrowing time at the Expressway last morning when the traffic was held up for over two hours. Unaware of what was happening, she started posting tweets to find out what was happening.

Rajore who was returning to the city from Mumbai said, "It was harassing for people who were travelling at that hour. Most of the vehicles were being diverted back to Mumbai and for people like us, we were just stuck at the same spot for more than two hours."

Rajore was also in touch with some of her friends through BlackBerry Messenger. She said: "People were hungry. Passengers travelling by bus had climbed on to the top of buses to try to find out what was happening.
Among those who were waiting was a family with two kids and it was traumatising to see them getting restless." Among those who were waiting to get the expressway cleared were some who had to take a flight.

Jairaj Berde tweeted: "10-kilometre traffic jam on Expressway." Others like Akshay Chopra wanted to know more about the status of the blocked Expressway. Aditya Athilye, who was also stuck, said: "Police seems to have opened fire on the Expressway. Don't have a clue as to what is happening."

The Expressway was shut for almost two hours and several vehicles were found stranded and helpless. Even after the police tried to disperse the crowd, many commuters were unsure of continuing the drive. Some commuters with families were compelled to take shelter in nearby police chowkies.

It was a nightmarish experience for commuters on the Expressway as protestors were pelting stones on vehicles on the Expressway. "We nearly missed getting hit by stones being pelted by angry protestors. It was a scary situation," said a media person.
