2nd year ILS Law College student in hospital on birthday after taking 15 painkiller pills

A 19-year-old female student of the ILS Law College was rushed to a hospital in the wee hours yesterday after she consumed 15 tablets of a painkiller. The woman (name withheld to protect identity) is a second year student and lives in the college ladies' hostel.

Around 12.30 am, the woman was rushed to the casualty section of Sahyadri Hospital on Karve Road when she complained of dizziness after taking the tablets.

Hospital authorities said they had determined the student took at least 15 painkiller tablets.

"She has been shifted into the ICU and is stable. Her parents have not yet arrived," said a hospital employee.
The hospital records mentioned October 4 as the student's birthday.

Shaila Daware, rector of the ladies' hostel of ILS Law College, admitted the student to the hospital. She confirmed the young woman had had an overdose of tablets. "Her exams are on and because of the stress and headache she must have taken medicine," said Daware. "She took a bit more by mistake, but it wasn't a suicide attempt."

A college student said the parents of the admitted student had been informed and were on their way to the city from Dehradun.
