The BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike) premises await the city's brand new councillors.

The BBMP council hall has been spruced up, the garden, has been renovated and more trees have been added, cabins for chairmen of various committees having been given a makeover and a brand new building awaits the new councillors at NR Square, where the chosen ones will begin their deliberations after three long years.

"We have made adequate arrangements," said Dr S Khandre, PRO, BBMP. "There are some issues that are being addressed to ensure that their first day is smooth at the council."

"Our officials are overseeing work being carried out in the council hall premises," added Khandre.

"While a major part of the work has been completed, minor details like painting, polishing and furnishing rooms are still being carried out."

The new council, which earlier accommodated over 100 corporators, is now renovated to accommodate over 271 that include 198 corporators, MLAs, MPs, officials and citizens.

Following changes in seating, the council hall, resembles the State Assembly. A whopping Rs 90 lakh is being spent on the renovation that includes wooden flooring, high-end sound systems and fixed wooden seating.u00a0

Rooms to house chairmen of eight committees like Town Planning, Health,u00a0and Finance have been renovated.

On the down side, officials admit the parking space at the BBMP main building remains woefully inadequate.

No parking

"We have parking space for only 300 vehicles in the premises," explained Khandre. "However, arrangements are being made to accommodate more vehicles. We are in talks with the traffic police for a workable solution."
