Car was speeding when it crashed into tempo and overturned
The car was badly mangled in the accident near Dhamini
Pune: A mid-week winter trip to Lonavla came to a tragic halt for five college youths from Chembur as their car met with an accident this morning on the Mumbai-Pune expressway, near the Dhamini area. Police sources said the group, including two girls, had set out this morning. While three of the youngsters succumbed to their injuries, two are recuperating at MGM Hospital. The deceased have been identified as Faijaan Mohammed Shaikh, Swaddha and Shraddha, while the injured youths are Rijwan and Nilesh.
Speaking to mid-day, a Khalapur police officer said, "The incident took place on the Mumbai-Pune expressway around 9.45 am. Prima facie it seems that the person behind the wheels of the Volkswagen Polo (RJ 21-CB-0833) was speeding. As per our records, the car belongs to a person named Imtiyaz, who is a resident of Nagaur in Rajasthan. We are yet to find out how the youths are connected with Imtiyaz. As two of the victims are still in a critical condition, we are waiting for them to gain consciousness before we question them."

The officer confirmed that an accidental death report (ADR) has been filed in the case and probe is underway.
According to Vijay Bhosale, who works in the emergency unit of the Expressway, the speeding car dashed a tempo before grinding to a halt. "The tempo was parked just outside the Expressway lane, near an S-shaped bend. The speeding car dashed the tempo and pushed it forward for quite some distance before both the vehicles came to a halt. After locals informed us about the incident, we immediately alerted the cops, who rushed the victims to the hospital. But, it was already too late for three the youths. Thankfully, the tempo driver wasn't inside his vehicle at the time of the incident."
