Supreme Court sets aside Delhi High Court ruling quashing defamatory proceedings against its editor Tarun Tejpal filed by Jaya Jaitly
The ghost of Operation Westend will soon return to haunt Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal with renewed vigour as former Samata Party chief Jaya Jaitly is planning to file a fresh defamation suit against him.
After the Supreme Court set aside a Delhi High Court ruling quashing defamatory proceedings against Tejpal, Jaitly is in no mood to relent.
"Operation Westend was orchestrated and I will fight till the last to see Tejpal behind bars," Jaitly said, while speaking to MiD DAY.

She added, "Tehelka does not believe in any kind of truth. Tarun Tejpal believes in making his own truth but now either he will have to furnish concrete proof or he will go to jail."
Jaitly filed the suit against Tejpal after Operation Westend in which the Tehelka news portal carried out a sting operation to expose senior defence ministry officials receiving kickbacks in defence deals. She had particularly objected to an article in Tehelka where Tejpal allegedly described her as corrupt.
Setting aside the High Court order, the Supreme Court also ruled that the Central Bureau of Investigation's prosecution proceedings against Jaitly in the Tehelka expose case would continue simultaneously.

"Jaya Jaitly filed a criminal defamation case against on an article written by Tarun Tejpal but the suit was quashed by the High Court. But the SC has ordered that the hearing should resume in the case," said Abhijat.

Her case was represented by senior advocate and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitely.

But the order would not affect the CBI's enquiry in the case in which the agency has already filed a charge sheet. "The two cases will run simultaneously," said Abhijat.
