A 29-year-old doctor with the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) who recently attended a seminar in Britain and a 50-year-old woman who returned from Singapore July 14 have been confirmed with influenza A(H1N1) virus.
H C Gera, the union territory's nodal officer for swine flu cases, said, "Both the patients were complaining of sore throat and running nose. After seeing their travel history, we took precautionary measure and admitted them in isolated wards."
The doctor is admitted in PGIMER while the woman is in a government hospital in sector 16.
"We had sent their throat swab samples to NICD (National Institute of Communicable Diseases) in New Delhi and got the report yesterday (Saturday). Both have tested positive," he said.
Health officials have also quarantined the infected woman's husband, daughter and their maid at their home.
"Though they have not yet shown any symptoms of swine flu, we will keep them under observation for the next six to seven days," Gera said.
Last month a 19-year-old boy, who had returned from the US, had tested positive for the influenza A(H1N1) virus.
