Two cop chases in Kondhwa and Kothrud took a life-threatening turn on Tuesday when two accused men tried to end their lives during the operation.

The two have suffered serious injuries and are recuperating at different private hospitals in the city.

First incident
In the first incident, the police were on the lookout for Ajay Nikalje (25), who was wanted in rioting and fighting cases. A resident of Kakdewasti in Kondhwa, Nikalje was missing until the Kondhwa police tracked him down.

According to the cops, when Nikalje saw the police heading towards him, he started running towards VIT college ground.
The police were determined to catch him and trapped him from all sides. Realising that there was no way he could escape from them, he decided to take matters in his own hands.

To avoid getting caught, he slashed himself with a blade on his chest, hands, head and neck. Constable Mansingh Rathod, who was a part of this operation, has lodged a suicide complaint against Nikalje.

Police Sub-Inspector V N Raut from Kondhwa police station is probing the case.

Second incident
In another cop chase on Tuesday night, Rama Kudle tried to get away from the cops by attempting to kill himself by self-immolation.

The Kothrud Police said, “After receiving a tip-off, we began chasing Kudle. When he got the news of us coming after him he locked himself in his room and tried to ignite himself with diesel.”

API Nadaf from Kothrud Police Station is investigating the case.
