The 37-year-old tries to jump from IGI departure ramp; booked for suicide attempt

A 37-year-old US national allegedly tried to jump from the departure ramp of the Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Thursday.

Tyrone's act was similar to the one enacted by Dharmendra in Sholay

The man, identified as Redmond Tyrone, was reported to have climbed the ramp near departure gate no. 8 at around 8.30 a.m. and then threatened to jump. However, before he could do so, he was nabbed by the cops.u00a0
Police said that Tyrone had come to the Capital along with his non-resident Indian friend Nilesh Patel on February 2. They then went to Baroda and later returned to Delhi on Tuesday as Tyrone was scheduled to catch a flight back to the US the next day. Nilesh, who had come see Tyrone off, returned to Baroda the same day.

Tyrone however reported late at the airline's counter on Wednesday afternoon and was not allowed to board the flight. When airlines staff asked Tyrone about his luggage, he realised that his friend had taken his baggage with him. "Since after getting inside, one cannot come out of the airport without a valid reason, Tyrone had to spend the whole night inside the departure lounge. But in the morning as soon as he got the opportunity, he rushed out and attempted to jump from the ramp," a senior police officer said.

Police arrested him and registered a case under section 309 (attempt to suicide) against him at IGI police station. "The man was reportedly depressed after his love affair had failed. The girl with whom he had a relationship now loved his friend. That is why he seemed to have taken this step," said a senior police official on the condition of anonymity.
