When cops drink and drive
The police are trying to save two constables attached to Rajbhavan Security who in an allegedly drunken state knocked down two youths in J J Nagar.
The two constables were allegedly drunk and were driving a Qualis vehicle in a rash and negligent manner. It collided head on with the motorcycle of Jafar Khan, 19, who was returning home from work. Both Jafar Khan and his friend were injured.
Sensing danger, constable Narayana Jetty who was driving, tried to speed away but the passersby chased and stopped the vehicle near BESCOM office at JJ Nagar.
The JJ Nagar police sent the injured teenage boys to Victoria hospital. They, however, shielded the constables
without subjecting them for drunken driving test.
Police in a fix
After having cracked the whip on the drunken drivers in the city, the city police commissioner has found himself in an embarrassing situation after his own men were caught red-handed by the public.
"When we intercepted the vehicle and asked the duo to get down, they were so drunk that they could not even stand properly," one of the eyewitness said.
"How could the police be so partial, they stop two wheeler riders and force them to blow alcometers even if they are not drunk. But the two are visible seen drunk, but the police did not subject them to test," another witness asked.
However, the residents who witnessed the drama said they would complaint to the senior police officers, if strict action is not taken.
