Students of Jawaharlal Nehru University are renowned for their eloquence in slogan-writing and poster-making. On Monday someone put that to 'good use'.
Studied silence: The Jawaharlal Nehru University (above), established in
1969, caters to about 5,500 students.
Students were astonished to see a poster glued to the wall of an eatery inside the campus. It announced the organisation of a condolence meet because of the death of four professors from the varsity. The poster went on to say that there would be no office or classes because of the incident.
Sources say that a student of South Asian Studies at the International Studies department of JNU is behind this. A copy of the poster was also pasted outside the International Studies Centre informed about the expiration of the four professors who took classes for South Asian Studies. According to sources, it is being probed that whether it was a mischief done by student from the centre it self as the exams was on and he wanted to avert the paper by pasting these poster.
"The posters said that there is a condolence meet on December 6 as four professors have expired and there would be no classes and office as the centre will remain closed," said a JNU student who saw the poster outside SBI ATM near Godavari hostel.
While the poster was everywhere in JNU and the campus was buzzing with the news of their death, the four professors were busy in a meeting. They were informed about their 'expiration' by one of the students who came to the centre enquiring about the matter.
The poster was immediately removed from everywhere on the campus and so far no one has been held responsible for it. The poster didn't even have any signature or details of the writer. JNU administration said it is not taking this lightly and is probing the matter.
