Can India rejoice over Obama? Will there be any change in US policy with regard to India in particular or the sub continent as a whole? Blogosphere is filled with opinions and predictions in this regard.

According to this blogger, the Indian markets have shown a positive response with change of guard in America. "The stock market has gained 126 points by the first half of the day. Businesses seem to be lively again. It seems to be a new beginning for all."

"Now that the Bush regime is over, there is a lot of speculation about how things would change for the world. Termed as the most powerful man in the world, Obama is expected to show great results. All eyes are directed at Obama waiting for him to come up with new policies that would do the world some good. India too has its own share of expectations, let us see how much of that is fulfilled," the blogger concludes.

"As far as India is concerned, there are apprehensions the Obama administration may place curbs on its outsourcing industry, ban any future nuclear tests and resurrect the Kashmir question," says this blogger.u00a0

"In a population which is divided along all possible lines and not ready to move beyond them, I ask myself can an Obama rise? The answer to me is "No", after all "in a democracy people get the government they deserve," says this blogger named The Reluctant Blogger.u00a0

Some bloggers are peeved at Obama's mention of Kashmir issue.

"Obama raised Kashmir issue which was uncalled for. One has to see what will happen to the much hyped Indo-US nuclear deal. Any additional conditions to operationalize the deal will not be in the interest of India," says this blogger.u00a0

"India has consistently opposed the appointment of a special US envoy for Kashmir (news reports suggest the envoy could be former President Bill Clinton) saying Kashmir is a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan. Meanwhile, Obama is determined to make the Afghanistan-Pakistan border as the centre point of America's fight against terror," says this blogger.

"The silver lining", says this blogger,u00a0is that "the Obama administration, in raising its hopes of "change" and its emphasis of knocking the wax house of neoconservatism, will enthuse those who believe in it genuinely. There would be greater avenues for those in the left to question the motives and the actions of rulers as in America, as elsewhere in the world.

"By suitable groupings, the Non Aligned Movement for e.g. or the get-together of the nations from the third world countries, American and indeed imperialist exceptionalism can be handled hurdles if not completely thwarted. In that sense, an Obama administration (over a Bush administration) is indeed better for "India," says this blogger who take a "leftist view" in this regard.u00a0

Outsourcing

This bloggeru00a0is exploring whether Obama's decision to rein in offshoring will affect India's prospects.

u00a0

"If Obama thinks that he can "control" offshoring, by offering tax breaks to those who dont offshore and "punishing" those who do, he is simply trying to cover his eyes and claim that the Sun is gone. US has been doing this kind of manipulation in several sectors (like Textiles, or Fisheries for example); but in a matter of time, companies will stop buying this," says the blogger.

u00a0

"You cannot control offshoring by these kind of laws. If he is serious about improving jobs in America, Obama would rather focus on building education platforms, control cost of living and make labor freely available with necessary talent," says the blogger.

u00a0

According to the blogger, by enacting laws to prevent offshoring, Obama will enable only weaken companies that struggle to survive without quality labor or who struggle to live with high cost labor and finally end up offshoring anyway or worse, close shop or lose to competition from rest of the world.
