Shiv Sena today demanded resignation of Union Home Minister P Chidrambaram over withdrawal of criminal cases against a hotelier, said to be a former client of the minister.

"We demand immediate resignation of Chidambaram, who has miserably failed on all fronts. Recent favour shown by him towards his former client in withdrawing of three criminal cases in which High Court and Supreme Court had refused to quash the same is not accepted to public," Shiv Sena JK chief Ashok Gupta said.


Activists of Shiv Sena and Dogra Front took out a protest rally from Science College to Press Club over the alleged involvement of Chidambaram in withdrawal of the cases against S P Gupta, Chairman, Sunair Hotels Limited, New Delhi.



u00a0"We have also written to Prime Minister and President, demanding Chidambaram's resignation," Gupta said.

Gupta was accused of misusing the names of the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and defrauding a firm VLS Finance to the tune of several crores of rupees.
