The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has said it is too early to reach any firm conclusions about the recent Air India plane crash and has asked the public and media not to spread rumours or unverified information, reported the PTI.
In a statement released on Thursday, AAIB Director General G. V. G. Yugandhar said, “We are aware that some parts of the international media are trying to make claims based on selective and unchecked information. This is not responsible, especially while the investigation is still going on,” according to the PTI.
The statement comes against the backdrop of reports suggesting that pilot error led to the crash of the Air India plane that killed 260 people on June 12.
The AAIB urged everyone to wait for the final investigation report before making any assumptions. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft, enroute from Ahmedabad in Gujarat to London Gatwick, crashed soon after take off.
AAIB explained that the preliminary report only describes what happened, not why it happened.
“It is too early to jump to any conclusions. The full investigation is not yet complete. Only the final report will show the root causes and offer safety recommendations,” the bureau said, as per the PTI.
AAIB also stressed the importance of not upsetting the families of those who died and warned against damaging public trust in Indian aviation with unfounded claims.
The investigation is being carried out under proper AAIB rules and international standards, the statement said.
The AAIB also reminded the public that it has investigated 92 accidents and 111 serious incidents since it began in 2012 and maintains a strong track record.
“The AAIB is also working on several other current investigations,” it added, as per the PTI.
"Even now, apart from investigating in the ill-fated Air India's B787-8 aircraft VT-ANB, several other accidents and serious incidents are under investigation," the statement noted.
The AAIB appeals to all concerned to await publication of Final Investigation Report after completion of the Investigation. AAIB will also publish updates, as and when required, which have technical and public interest, the news agency reported.
