Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday released a commemorative Rs 100 coin and a set of stamps honouring the life, teachings and legacy of late spiritual leader Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

Prime Minister Modi participated in the birth centenary celebrations of Sai Baba here in the Sri Sathyasai district.


As part of the celebrations, the Prime Minister further paid his respects and his obeisance to Sai Baba at his Mahasamadhi in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh.



During his visit to Puttaparthi, Prime Minister Modi was given a Vedic blessing by priests, reported PTI. 

Along with the Prime Minister, various other leaders, including the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and K Ram Mohan Naidu and actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, were also present. 

Hours before attending the birth centenary celebrations of Sri Satya Sai Baba in Puttaparthi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was felicitated by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

The celebrations at Andhra Pradesh’s Puttaparthi included cultural dance performances and singing.

Earlier on Wednesday, PM Modi also visited the holy shrine and 'Mahasamadhi' of Sri Sathya Sai Baba in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh, and offered his obeisance and paid respects, reported PTI. 

Along with PM Modi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan were also present.

Before that, PM Modi also held a roadshow while on his way to Puttaparthi to attend the birth centenary celebrations of Sri Satya Sai Baba. 

In view of having a glimpse of the Prime Minister and paying tribute to Satya Sai Baba, people in large numbers lined the streets.

The area where PM Modi held a roadshow has been secured with barricades, and police have been deployed to ensure safety and protocol during the Prime Minister's visit.

According to an official release by the PMO, “PM Modi, on the occasion of the Centenary Celebrations of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, will release a commemorative coin and a set of stamps honouring the life, teachings, and enduring legacy of Sri Satya Sai Baba. He will also address the gathering during the programme,” as reported by news agency PTI.
