The police reached the main gate of Salvage Garden, where the gang was caught off guard and the police seized two knives and two pistols. A case was registered under Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act at Mayapuri police station. The police had been on the lookout for these carjackers for the past one year.

The associates began their journey by stealing luxury cars and disposing them to one Tajuddin alias Mamu at Meerut (UP). A known person in the trade, Mamu, helped in selling the cars. He had been earlier arrested with the Manoj Bakkarwala gang.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
As the robbery business flourished, the members benefited too. Pravesh and Dharambir obtained factory-made English pistols. During interrogation, Pravesh and Dharambir disclosed that possessing these pistols used to boost their confidence level in committing more crime. While committing robbery, Rakesh would stop a vehicle on the pretext of asking for lift and the other three gang members would then rob the driver at gun point and escape in the car.
