While many constitutencies in Bihar are in the process to vote for their next leader on Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has started campaigning for the second phase of polling, said that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants snatch jobs and pose security threats to the country. While asserting on the issue of infiltration, Shah said that Bihar Election 2025 is to make the eastern state "infiltrator-free", news agency PTI reported.

While addressing an election rally at Bettiah in the West Champaran district, the Union Home Minister alleged that the RJD had indulged in massacres and rapes while in power, while asserting that there is no place for 'bahubalis' (strongmen) in the NDA government.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi established the Makhana Board... if 'Lalu & co' come to power, 'infiltrator ghusao board' will be set up," the Union Home Minister further said.

He also promised a new airport for Champaran and asserted that all the closed sugar mills in the region will be revived through cooperatives, and major schemes will be launched for the Tharu community if the NDA returns to power in the state, PTI reported.

Hitting out at the Opposition Mahagathbandhan, Shah said Champaran would turn into "mini-Chambal" if "thagbandhan" comes to power in Bihar.

Decent voter turnout in the first phase of Bihar polls till 3 pm

Over 53.77 per cent of 3.75 crore eligible electors had cast their votes by 3 p.m. in the first phase of the Bihar Assembly polls on Thursday, with Begusarai district leading among 18 districts with 59.82 per cent turnout, according to provisional data on the ECI website.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and INDIA bloc's CM candidate Tejashwi Yadav were among the top leaders who cast their votes in the first phase of the high-stakes assembly polls, seen as a litmus test for the ruling NDA.

In a post on social media platform X, RJD alleged, "During the voting in the first phase, electricity is being cut off intermittently at the strong booths of the Mahagathbandhan with the intention of slowing down voting. Slow voting is being deliberately caused." The party has appealed to the Election Commission to take "immediate cognisance" of the "rigging with malicious intent" and "mala fide intentions" and "take prompt action".
