Newly appointed BJP President Nitin Nabin has been given top-tier armed VIP security by the Central government, news agency PTI reported, quoting officials on Tuesday.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will provide a Z-category security detail for Nabin.
A few weeks ago, the Union Home Ministry instructed the CRPF to take charge of his security following his announcement as the new BJP party leader, said officials, adding that armed CRPF commandos will accompany Nabin during his travels across the country.
Nabin was sworn-in as the BJP President on Tuesday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior party leaders in New Delhi.
The 45-year-old five-time Bihar legislator was elected unopposed on Monday as the BJP National President, the youngest ever to occupy the top post at a time when the saffron party seeks to further expand its footprint with key state elections around the corner.
His predecessor, JP Nadda, also received a similar security cover from the government, with the CRPF VIP security wing managing the arrangements of his travel across the country.
The VIP security cover, under the Central protection list, ranges from the highest Z-plus (ASL) to Z-plus, Z, Y, Y-plus, and X categories.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Gandhi family, and several other politicians and high-ranking individuals are protected by the CRPF, which has approximately 200 VIPs under its umbrella.
PM Modi vows to counter ‘Urban Naxalism’
While addressing the party workers during the swearing-in ceremony of BJP President Nitin Nabin, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi raised concerns over the growing influence of 'Urban Naxalism', saying it has increasingly acquired international dimensions and continues to work against India, news agency ANI reported.
"Another major challenge is urban Naxalism. The scope of urban Naxalism is becoming international. If they tweet something positive about Modi even once or twice a year, or say something positive on TV, or write something positive in a newspaper, some journalists humiliate them so much that they are hounded and made untouchable,” PM Modi said.
“They are silenced so that they can never speak again. This is the method of urban Naxalism," he said at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in New Delhi," he added.
