In a major reshuffle of the Gujarat Cabinet, Majura legislator Harsh Sanghavi was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister (CM), while 25 ministers were sworn in as part of the Bhupendra Patel-led government on Friday at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, news agency ANI reported.

Harsh Sanghavi, a three-time Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), had previously held the portfolio of minister of state (MoS) for home in the previous cabinet.

Jamnagar North MLA Rivaba Jadeja, who is the wife of Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, has also been inducted into the cabinet as a minister of state.

The oaths of office were administered by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat. With the new inductions, the cabinet strength now stands at 26, including CM Patel, ANI reported.

The reshuffle comes three years into the government’s formation and two years ahead of the 2027 Gujarat Legislative Assembly Elections as a part of the administration’s bid to bring in new faces while retaining experienced leadership.

The following legislators have been retained

Visnagar MLA Rushikesh Patel – previously held health, education, and law portfolios

Kamrej MLA Praful Pansheriya – MoS parliamentary affairs

Jasdan MLA Kunvarji Bavaliya – Water resources

Pardi MLA Kanubhai Desai – Finance, energy, and petrochemicals

Bhavnagar Rural MLA Parshottam Solanki – MoS fisheries

Morbi MLA Kantilal Amrutiya

Vadodara City MLA Manisha Vakil.

Notably, Porbandar MLA Arjun Mondhwadia, who switched to BJP from Congress last year, has also been inducted into the cabinet.

Other members of the new cabinet include:

Jitu Vaghani (Bhavnagar MLA and former Gujarat BJP chief)

Kaushik Vekariya (Amreli MLA, BJP Deputy Chief Whip)

Swarupji Thakor (Banaskantha MLA)

Trikam Chhanga (Anjar MLA)

Ishwarsinh Patel (Ankleshwar MLA)

Ramanbhai Solanki (Borsad MLA)

Kamlesh Patel (Petlad MLA)

On Thursday, all the 16 ministers, except CM Patel, had resigned to facilitate the cabinet reshuffle.

Under constitutional provisions, Gujarat can have a maximum of 27 ministers (15 per cent of the 182-member Assembly). Previously, the council of ministers comprised 17 members, including the CM, of which eight held cabinet rank and the others were the ministers of state.
