Kolkata Police warn of action if identity of law college gang rape survivor is revealed

The police termed revealing the identity of a rape victim as a serious violation of the law and termed it as punishable.  The city police cautioned that sharing any material, including documents, images, or social media content that could directly or indirectly reveal the identity of the victim is punishable under relevant legal provisions

The Kolkata Police on Tuesday issued a warning of strict legal action against any individual attempting to disclose the identity of the student, allegedly gang-raped in a law college in the city.

The police termed revealing the identity of a rape victim as a serious violation of the law and termed it as punishable.  The city police cautioned that sharing any material, including documents, images, or social media content that could directly or indirectly reveal the identity of the victim is punishable under relevant legal provisions.


College expels accused 



The authorities of South Calcutta Law College terminated the services on the prime accused and expelled two other co-accused in the alleged gang rape of a 24-year-old student from the institute, an official said on Tuesday.

Monojit Mishra, along with co-accused Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee, both students of the college, have  been arrested and remanded to police custody. Their DNA samples were collected on Monday as a part of the ongoing investigation, a police officer said.

Students, lawyers protest 

Students of South Calcutta Law College held a demonstration on Tuesday, demanding safety on the college campus. Around 100 lawyers of Alipore Court also took out a protest on the court premises.
