A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped and impregnated in Ausa taluka of Latur district, Maharashtra, on Tuesday, according to police statement.
The crime took place over a period of seven months. A case was registered on May 30, after which the accused has been on the run.
"As per the investigation conducted so far, the minor victim had been staying with her sister, and her brother-in-law who were employed as a farm worker by the accused," an official from Maharashtra said.
While the survivor frequently visited the farm, the accused kept a close watch on the girl. During one such occasion, he sexually assaulted the minor and threatened to kill her if she revealed the crime to her family members. The prolonged suffering of the minor began seven to eight months ago, which recently came into light, mentioned the official.
A medical examination confirmed that the minor was six months pregnant. The police have filed a case under under sections 64(2)(1)(M) (rape) and 351(2)(3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official said.

A man convicted by a court has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor and forcing her to undergo an abortion, an official said.
Government advocate Neeraj Singh said that Additional District Judge Amit Veer Singh convicted Chandrabali Panika under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Tuesday and also fined him Rs 20,000, of which Rs 15,000 is to be paid to the survivor.
The survivor's mother had registered a complaint on October 4, 2023, with the Sonbhadra Superintendent of Police, alleging that the man has been raping her daughter for the past three years under the pretext of marriage. The mother further alleged that after her daughter got pregnant, Panika asked her to get an abortion. When she refused, he forcibly administered medication, resulting in the death of the foetus and causing life-threatening complications for the survivor.
